This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Render's datastores, primarily focused on Postgres. Your responsibilities will include provisioning and lifecycle management, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery, managing backups and point-in-time recovery, optimizing scaling and performance, overseeing connection management, and expanding the ecosystem.
• Lead the prioritization of Render's data initiatives, balancing foundational reliability efforts — such as replication, failover, and storage performance — with immediate product and business requirements, while effectively negotiating these trade-offs.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering and other Product teams to define the technical direction of Render's data layer, ensuring that architectural choices enhance durability, performance, and operational ease. Since databases are critical for customer trust, a strong instinct for reliability and data safety is crucial.
• Formulate a robust, well-considered perspective on the evolution of managed Postgres to cater to AI-native builders — addressing needs from vector workloads and retrieval pipelines to databases that can be programmatically created, branched, and dismantled at scale.
• Establish the benchmark for developer experiences with data on Render, offering clear guidance, sensible defaults, and abstractions that empower teams to confidently operate production databases without requiring dedicated DBA personnel.
• Over 7 years of experience in Product Management, primarily focusing on databases, data infrastructure, developer tools, or platform products.
• Knowledge of Postgres, including its architecture, operational model, ecosystem, and the challenges teams encounter when running it in production. A bonus would be a strong viewpoint on how agentic workloads and AI-native applications are influencing database usage trends.
• Strong developer empathy, both for internal engineering teams and our customers, along with the technical expertise to make informed architectural decisions in partnership with engineering.
• Proven ability to transform ambiguous, high-stakes reliability and infrastructure challenges into clear strategies and successful outcomes.
• Excellent communication and storytelling abilities.
• 4 weeks of paid vacation.
• 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave for all parents to bond with a newly born, adopted, or fostered child. We will also collaborate with you to develop a supportive return plan.
• Long-term disability, life insurance, and 401K plans.
• Complete employer-paid medical coverage and 99% employer-paid dental and vision coverage for you and a dependent. FSAs and HSAs are also available.
• Monthly lifestyle stipend for wellness, mental health and therapy, hobbies, etc.
• Monthly cell phone and internet subsidy.
• Commuter benefits for Renders in the Bay Area, along with home office stipends for remote Renders.
• Continuous learning benefits and related support.
