Staff Pharmacist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Missouri.

📋 Description

• Assess and clinically validate both new and refill prescriptions for therapeutic suitability, potential drug interactions, contraindications, and accuracy of dosing.

• Confirm the accuracy of pharmacy technician's prescription data entry.

• Ensure that filled prescriptions are checked for drug, dosage, quantity, NDC, and labeling correctness prior to shipment.

• Conduct daily prospective drug utilization reviews and address any clinical flags that arise.

• Oversee the handling of specialty medications, including verification of cold-chain storage.

• Conduct outbound patient counseling calls to provide education on medications, side effects, dosing, storage, and adherence.

• Manage inbound clinical patient inquiries and refer non-clinical questions to patient support.

• Record patient interactions in the pharmacy management system.

• Offer bilingual counseling to Spanish-speaking patients as required.

• Reach out to prescribers for clarification on prescriptions that are incomplete, ambiguous, or clinically inappropriate.

• Collaborate on therapeutic substitutions, DAW overrides, and alternative formulary options.

• Supervise pharmacy technicians and perform real-time quality assessments.

• Report on technician performance trends and engage in coaching and training activities.

• Ensure adherence to HIPAA regulations, state pharmacy practice laws, federal DEA guidelines, and company policies.

• Oversee the handling, documentation, and disposal of PHI.

• Participate in audits, track prescription errors, report near-misses, and engage in pharmacovigilance activities.

• Maintain compliance with storage requirements for temperature-sensitive medications.

• Work collaboratively with pharmacy leaders, patient services, clinical teams, compliance, technology, shipping, and fulfillment departments.

• Provide clinical insights for enhancements to technology and workflow tools.

• Take part in huddles, quality reviews, and departmental meetings.

⛳️ Requirements

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy.

• Active Missouri Pharmacy License in good standing with the Missouri Board of Pharmacy.

• Proficient in the English language, both written and verbal.

• Proven ability to conduct high-volume prescription verifications with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.

• Strong technical skills and capacity to learn pharmacy management systems, verification platforms, and internal workflow tools.

• Bilingual in Spanish preferred for patient counseling conducted over the phone.

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in mail order, specialty, retail, or closed-door fulfillment pharmacy preferred.

• Active pharmacy license required in the home state; candidates must obtain licensure in 3 additional states from the provided list within the first 9 months of employment.

• Familiarity with pharmacovigilance or adverse drug event reporting protocols is preferred.
