Staff Engineer, Retail

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Assume technical leadership within the Retail sector.

• Provide guidance on architectural choices concerning scalability, performance, and maintainability.

• Transform intricate technical issues into practical solutions.

• Develop customer-facing solutions from the stages of discovery and technical design to implementation, rollout, and production.

• Advance engineering practices, shared components, and architectural frameworks.

• Deliver consistent, reusable, and high-quality experiences at scale.

• Mentor engineers through collaborative work, code reviews, design discussions, and technical feedback.

• Foster alignment on technical decisions and elevate engineering standards throughout the Retail sector.

• Collaborate with Product Owners, UX, and engineering team members.

• Investigate opportunities, pinpoint risks early, and balance technical trade-offs, customer value, and long-term sustainability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive software engineering expertise with a solid foundation in frontend, backend, or both.

• Experience at the Staff/Principal level or equivalent technical leadership.

• Strong capabilities in architecture and system design.

• Proven ability to take charge of complex technical decisions with a high level of autonomy.

• Established history of mentoring engineers and leading through influence.

• Competency in creating alignment without formal authority.

• Strong product mindset combined with engineering knowledge.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with Product and UX teams.

• Capacity to assess trade-offs and validate ideas in a pragmatic manner.

• Experience in determining when solutions should scale versus when rapid learning is the priority.

• Familiarity with technologies such as React.js, Next.js, Java, ES6, ESI, Varnish, Docker, Google Cloud, or Kubernetes.
