Senior Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Spearhead backend development and oversee server-side logic.

• Take ownership of services from start to finish, including deployment, operation, and maintaining production health.

• Enhance and sustain production environments alongside CloudEng.

• Establish monitoring and alerting systems using tools like OpenTelemetry, Sentry, Prometheus, and Grafana.

• Engage in on-call and off-hours support rotations.

• Assess and resolve production challenges, investigate incidents, and attend to bug reports.

• Manage releases, dependency updates, and address incoming stakeholder requests during support rotations.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools effectively.

• Collaborate with frontend, platform, product, Cloud Engineering, UX, design, and support teams.

• Contribute to the design of APIs and data contracts.

• Participate in code reviews.

• Take part in security and privacy evaluations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 4 years of experience in software development with a strong emphasis on backend.

• Extensive professional experience with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust in developing backend services.

• Proven experience leading backend engineering initiatives.

• Strong proficiency in PostgreSQL and optimizing SQL queries.

• Experience in designing relational schemas and managing migrations using a query builder like Knex.

• Practical DevOps experience on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

• Familiarity with Docker-based build and deployment pipelines.

• Experience in deploying, managing, and troubleshooting cloud services.

• Knowledge of observability and monitoring tools such as Sentry and Grafana.

• Proven track record of owning services in a production environment.

• Experience in providing on-call or off-hours production support.

• Background in mentoring junior engineers.

• Ability to promote technical excellence in code quality, testing practices, and process enhancements.
