Staff Engineer – Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more locations.

📋 Description

• Create scalable, maintainable, and secure service architectures.

• Recognize platform-wide enhancements, opportunities for new service development, and initiatives for reducing technical debt.

• Contribute to the overarching platform vision and establish engineering standards.

• Develop backend services using C# within a functional programming paradigm or TypeScript for web and background-worker applications.

• Collaborate with SQL and NoSQL databases.

• Design, containerize, and deploy services utilizing Docker and Kubernetes.

• Construct and optimize cloud infrastructure using AWS or similar platforms.

• Implement and manage CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and Infrastructure as Code.

• Apply security best practices across both applications and infrastructure.

• Ensure reliability and scalability through test automation, performance profiling, and optimization.

• Integrate and manage third-party APIs.

• Investigate and implement AI/ML-driven features or integrations.

• Mentor peers and junior engineers.

• Collaborate with Product Managers, Staff Engineers, and cross-functional teams to define requirements, project scope, and deliver platform solutions.

• Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve complex backend issues.

• Keep abreast of developments in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and secure software practices.

• Share insights, improve engineering standards, and advocate for technologies that provide business advantages.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of professional experience in software development, with a robust background in distributed systems, platform engineering, and making architectural decisions.

• Proficiency in typed, functional programming languages such as Haskell, Scala, C#, or TypeScript.

• Extensive experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, with a preference for PostgreSQL expertise.

• Deep knowledge of system architecture, focusing on secure, scalable, and maintainable platforms.

• Comprehensive experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS or equivalent cloud platforms.

• Strong understanding of DevOps practices, including Git, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.

• Expertise in best practices for application and infrastructure security.

• Solid grasp of testing and automation methodologies.

• Experience in optimizing performance for reliability and scalability.

• Proficiency in integrating and managing third-party APIs.

• Experience or strong interest in AI/ML applications within production systems.

• Proven ability to mentor others.

• Demonstrated experience in navigating ambiguous and complex problem situations with effective problem-solving skills.
