Staff Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Establish technical strategies across various teams and execute them through direct implementation, broad technical leadership, or a combination of both.

• Propel the technical roadmap that multiple teams adhere to and guarantee its fulfillment.

• Resolve cross-team dependencies proactively to prevent integration delays or crunch periods.

• Develop frameworks and processes that maintain alignment among teams.

• Oversee multiple significant initiatives simultaneously while actively engaging in coding and architectural tasks.

• Establish Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and observability standards across the technology stack.

• Take ownership of technical debt management while balancing short-term delivery with long-term sustainability.

• Provide consistent technical guidance and architectural decisions across various teams.

• Utilize Architecture Office Hours, Lunch and Learns, internal presentations, and the wiki to disseminate context and best practices.

• Mentor engineers throughout the department, including senior engineers, in collaboration with managers.

• Serve as a quality gatekeeper through proactive code reviews and testing strategies.

• Empower other engineers to become effective reviewers and quality gatekeepers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 9 years of professional experience in software development, testing, software design, and architecture.

• Extensive knowledge of a complete production stack: frontend, backend, infrastructure, and data.

• Proven history of managing a multi-quarter technical roadmap that spans multiple teams.

• Experience in securing support from engineering peers and senior leadership while driving roadmaps to successful completion.

• Proven experience in managing technical debt as a defined program of work.

• Background in designing and operating B2B API integrations, covering aspects such as authentication, rate limiting, retries, idempotency, versioning, and contract evolution.

• Track record of mentoring senior engineers through architectural thinking and code reviews.

• Proficiency with CI tools, Docker, and cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or GCP.

• Experience in evaluating and deploying developer tools, including AI-assisted development tools.

• In-depth experience with Python and Django in building production services.

• Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

• Successful completion of a criminal background check.
