This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Design and construct high-quality internal AI tools and shared platform functionalities.
• Oversee the technical design and execution of intricate AI integrations that encompass MCP, agentic workflows, context layers, model gateways, and workflow automation.
• Navigate ambiguous business challenges from the discovery phase and architecture to implementation, deployment, measurement, and ongoing maintenance.
• Create and sustain infrastructure that connects approved models with internal systems, data, APIs, and user workflows.
• Ensure the reliability, scalability, observability, and security of production AI systems, including model routing, evaluation, access control, and the handling of sensitive data.
• Develop internal experiences across backend services, infrastructure, and user-facing interfaces.
• Collaborate with GSD colleagues, engineers, and business stakeholders to transform high-value workflows into sustainable solutions.
• Assess emerging AI models, frameworks, and patterns, providing recommendations on what to adopt, adapt, or avoid.
• Influence the technical roadmap by pinpointing reusable platform opportunities and linking engineering investments to quantifiable business outcomes.
• Offer technical leadership through code reviews, pairing, mentorship, documentation, office hours, and engineering discussions.
• 8+ years of professional software development experience, showcasing impact as a technical leader on complex production systems.
• Practical experience in creating and managing AI-enabled applications in a production environment.
• Strong understanding of MCP or similar tool-use protocols, agents, context management, and LLM integrations.
• Proven track record of developing internal tools, developer platforms, or enterprise systems that are utilized by real users and yield measurable operational benefits.
• In-depth backend engineering proficiency in Ruby, Python, or a similar programming language.
• Solid foundations in systems design, encompassing APIs, integrations, distributed systems, data flows, authentication, authorization, and practical architectural trade-offs.
• Hands-on cloud and DevOps experience in AWS or a comparable setting, covering CI/CD, containers, serverless infrastructure, observability, and infrastructure as code.
• Ability to navigate uncertainty independently and drive significant initiatives to completion.
• Effective, credible communication skills with the ability to influence at the Staff level.
• Bonus: Familiarity with React, TypeScript, GraphQL, n8n, Temporal, Langfuse, GitLab CI/CD, Kubernetes, Cloudflare Workers, HIPAA, or SOC 2.
