Staff DevOps Engineer – Federal/National Security

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and develop Red Cell Federal’s CI/CD and software promotion pipelines from the foundation up.

• Create secure procedures for software promotion across unclassified, controlled, and classified environments.

• Assist with ATO-related technical tasks for software agents and client deployments.

• Develop repeatable processes for deployment, release, rollback, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

• Implement and manage software in government and customer-controlled settings.

• Identify issues in environments where logs, data, or direct access cannot be widely shared.

• Collaborate with software and platform engineering teams to pinpoint problems and deliver corrected artifacts.

• Establish infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, secrets management, and artifact-handling protocols.

• Aid in the development of operational and compliance practices suitable for federal work.

• Assess tools and architecture based on security, reliability, portability, and mission needs.

• Create documentation for systems and processes to facilitate scalable deployments across customers and environments.

• Act as a hands-on technical leader as the federal engineering organization expands.

⛳️ Requirements

• Active U.S. government Secret clearance or higher; an active Top Secret clearance is preferred.

• Professional experience in DevOps, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, SRE, release engineering, or a closely related field.

• Experience in building or significantly redesigning CI/CD and deployment systems.

• Experience in deploying software in government, defense, regulated, disconnected, air-gapped, or other restricted environments.

• Strong knowledge of software delivery, artifact promotion, environment isolation, access controls, and operational troubleshooting.

• Familiarity with GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket Pipelines, Jenkins, or similar tools.

• Experience with containers, Kubernetes, Helm, or other orchestration and packaging technologies.

• Proficiency in infrastructure as code and configuration automation.

• Ability to script and automate using languages such as Python, Bash, or Go.

• Capability to make informed technical decisions with incomplete requirements.

• Excellent communication skills across software engineering, security, compliance, and customer stakeholders.

• A builder mentality with a genuine passion for creating systems from scratch.

• Experience with IL4, IL5, IL6, classified, or cross-domain deployment workflows.

• Background in contributing to an ATO or continuous authorization process.

• Familiarity with NIST, RMF, FedRAMP, CMMC, STIGs, or other relevant federal standards.
