Staff DevOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as an emerging subject matter expert and an independent contributor.

• Oversee and manage the scope, schedule, and delivery expectations.

• Define the long-term technical strategy for the program and represent software engineering in planning discussions.

• Promote technical solutions while effectively communicating trade-offs.

• Lead communications with stakeholders and drive enhancements in software engineering and DevOps methodologies.

• Enhance technical decision-making processes and unify DevOps tools and services across various teams or programs.

• Mentor team members and take on the role of an emerging people leader.

• Spearhead critical or cross-functional team structures and initiatives.

• Present technical subjects to clients, stakeholders, partners, and engineers.

• Direct cloud infrastructure and pipeline design choices, balancing factors such as cost, reliability, and efficiency.

• Steer the development and operation of solution infrastructure utilizing cloud services and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.

• Set the direction for libraries, modules, and packages utilized throughout projects.

• Ensure compliance with defense-in-depth security practices and alignment with CMS/NIST quality and compliance standards for ATO retention.

• Establish and advance an organization-wide Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) strategy.

• Integrate tools for quality thresholds, security vulnerabilities, and static analysis.

• Plan and implement migrations to cloud-native data services.

• Engage in and lead partner and stakeholder planning sessions.

• Occasionally travel to collaborate with and present to clients, partners, and stakeholders.

• Develop and refine complex products to identify constraints and opportunities.

• Ensure software complies with security, Service Level Agreement (SLA), and performance standards.

• Communicate system history, design choices, performance metrics, and project details for bids, demonstrations, and client interactions.

• Participate in technical depth interviews and contribute to shaping the discipline's technical benchmarks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and over 9 years of professional software engineering experience (or an equivalent mix of education and experience).

• Advanced mastery of fundamental DevOps concepts, including software installation, virtualization, containerization, and networking.

• Extensive knowledge of Terraform/Terragrunt, including module design and multi-environment state management at scale.

• In-depth expertise in GitHub Actions and Argo CD, including designing and troubleshooting complex CI/CD pipelines across teams.

• Comprehensive knowledge of HAProxy/OpenResty in production settings.

• Proficient understanding of AWS Cloud Services, including EKS/Kubernetes cluster architecture, workload scheduling, and lifecycle management.

• Proven experience leading infrastructure design decisions and articulating trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Experience ensuring systems comply with CMS/NIST standards to facilitate client ATO retention.

• U.S. citizenship or current legal authorization to work and reside in the United States without employer sponsorship.

• Capability to successfully complete and maintain any required government background check.

• Comfort in operating across both DevOps and SRE roles.

• Expertise with observability tools such as Datadog.

• Familiarity with security tools such as Trivy or Aqua.

• Experience navigating the FedRAMP/ATO process.

• Background in mentoring engineers.
