This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +44 more states.
• Direct the technical strategy and hands-on execution of one or two key applied machine learning or data science projects.
• Convert business opportunities into decision-making frameworks, technical strategies, success metrics, and plans for adoption and impact evaluation.
• Develop and manage complete end-to-end machine learning systems, encompassing data and feature pipelines, training and evaluation, batch or real-time inference, deployment, monitoring, failure management, and iterative improvements.
• Contribute to forecasting, demand and price elasticity estimation, causal analysis, and optimization efforts for pricing and revenue decisions.
• Design and evaluate experiments and quasi-experiments.
• Establish reusable standards for testing, reproducibility, version control, observability, documentation, and responsible model operation.
• Review designs and code across the team.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Data Engineering, Revenue Management, and business stakeholders.
• Embed models into products and operational workflows.
• Mentor data scientists and enhance the team’s technical capabilities.
• Report to the head of Data Product.
• Typically 6+ years of experience in applying data science, statistics, econometrics, or machine learning to significant business challenges.
• Staff-level experience leading ambiguous, cross-functional data science or machine learning initiatives from conception to ongoing production use.
• Proficient in Python and SQL.
• Capable of writing tested, maintainable production code and working effectively with large datasets.
• Experience managing production machine learning systems, including deployment, scoring, monitoring, failure management, operational support, and post-launch iteration.
• Strong judgment in applied statistics and model evaluation.
• Fundamentals in experimentation or causal inference.
• Ability to contribute to economic or optimization analysis.
• Skill in linking technical decisions to business outcomes and clearly communicating trade-offs.
• Self-motivated, collaborative work style; ability to prioritize tasks, provide and accept direct feedback, influence without formal authority, and maintain a hands-on approach in a lean, remote team.
