Software Engineering Lead – Data Services

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the function that oversees backend services, RESTful APIs, and AI/LLM systems that drive Firmable products.

• Lead two engineering pods through their respective team leads while maintaining approximately 80% hands-on involvement.

• Design the backend and API architecture for Python services utilizing FastAPI, Pydantic, and Logfire.

• Manage data modeling, schemas, access patterns, and ensure data integrity across PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and DynamoDB.

• Develop and operate AI/LLM services and agents in production, implementing versioned tools, prompts, schemas, traces, and evaluations.

• Create agent runtime infrastructure that includes tool-calling and MCP server layers, structured-output validation, bounded agentic loops, sandboxed execution, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and replayable traces.

• Construct evaluation harnesses with scorers, labeled sets, trajectory and multi-turn evaluations, LLM-as-judge calibration, CI regression suites, and drift detection.

• Ensure scalability and reliability for systems that handle millions of API calls.

• Set observability standards encompassing structured traces, latency percentiles, cost per request, and dashboards.

• Lead and develop two pods through their respective leads.

• Conduct architecture and code reviews while establishing standards for quality, testing, and AI-native practices.

• Facilitate connections among Data Platform, Application, and Product teams.

• Quickly transform early concepts into architectural decisions and functional prototypes.

• Report directly to the Head of Data & Services.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7–10 years of practical experience in backend engineering.

• Proven experience in leading engineers or engineering teams.

• At least 3 years of hands-on experience with Python.

• Experience in building and managing large-scale production systems that serve millions of API calls.

• Expertise in Python with extensive production experience in FastAPI.

• Proven experience in delivering AI/LLM services, APIs, and agents in production.

• Background in establishing evaluations for AI/LLM systems.

• Experience in developing tool-calling frameworks, MCP servers, and evaluation/test harnesses.

• Hands-on data modeling experience across both SQL and NoSQL databases.

• Familiarity with designing and consuming RESTful services at a large scale.

• Experience with agentic IDEs like Claude Code or Cursor.

• Capability to lead from architectural design through reference implementation and team integration.

• Proficient with Python services, Pydantic, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, DynamoDB, and RESTful APIs.

• Understanding of concepts like idempotency, caching, rate limits, cost ceilings, circuit breakers, bounded retries, and graceful degradation.

• Highly valued experience includes Braintrust, Inspect AI, Promptfoo, Logfire, OpenTelemetry, Claude Agent SDK, Pydantic AI, LangGraph, MCP, AWS/GCP, B2B data, entity resolution, enrichment pipelines, Snowflake, and experience in startups or scaleups.

• Must currently operate in an AI-native development environment utilizing agentic development, AI-driven test generation, automated review pipelines, and evaluations/traces.
