Staff Data Engineer – GCP, BigQuery, dbt

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Design and implement reliable data pipelines for analytics, reporting, and downstream data consumers, including ingestion and transformation processes.

• Make strategic architectural decisions and guide the technical trajectory of the data platform.

• Define data models and set modeling standards across various domains.

• Enhance ingestion and pipeline engineering practices.

• Improve data quality and elevate governance standards.

• Develop and oversee the ingestion and transformation layer within the Google Cloud environment.

• Engage directly within a data platform team utilizing BigQuery, dbt, and CI/CD methodologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 10 years of professional experience in a Data Engineer role.

• Proficient in SQL and Python 3.11 or higher.

• Ability to produce production-grade, tested, and maintainable code.

• Extensive hands-on experience with ETL/ELT tools and CI/CD pipelines (such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or equivalent).

• Strong practical experience with dbt (dbt Core 1.8 or newer / dbt Cloud).

• Deep understanding of data modeling methodologies, including Kimball, Inmon, and Data Vault.

• Expertise in the Google Cloud ecosystem, with a focus on BigQuery and GCP (mandatory).

• Direct, hands-on involvement in developing ingestion and pipeline engineering solutions.

• Proficient in English, both written and spoken.

• Preferred: experience with data governance frameworks, cataloging, and lineage tools.

• Preferred: familiarity with orchestration using Apache Airflow 2.9 or Cloud Composer.

• Preferred: experience in streaming ingestion with Pub/Sub or Kafka 3.x.

• Preferred: knowledge of Infrastructure as Code practices using Terraform 1.x.

• Preferred: experience in containerization using Docker and Kubernetes.

• Proficiency in Portuguese is not mandatory.
