This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Design and establish the data warehouse/lakehouse.
• Create pipelines to ingest data from various source systems.
• Develop the centralized data model and the dbt transformation layer.
• Ensure that transformations are version-controlled, tested, and well-documented.
• Implement data quality validation, monitoring, and alerting mechanisms.
• Set up row-level security for multi-tenant data.
• Build and sustain the semantic/metrics layer with governed metric definitions.
• Integrate the semantic layer into Power BI, in-product reporting, and the AI layer.
• Establish data foundations for AI and intelligence features, including data chat and proactively pushed insights.
• Lead platform and tooling decisions while setting engineering quality standards.
• Take ownership of the design and delivery of significant platform components.
• Collaborate with the Head of Data Engineering and evolve into a mentoring role as the team grows.
• Practical experience in designing, building, and operating data pipelines into a cloud warehouse or lakehouse in a production environment.
• Familiarity with modern cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or similar.
• Proficient in SQL and data modeling, including dimensional modeling and handling slowly changing dimensions.
• Strong experience with contemporary transformation frameworks like dbt, Matillion, or PySpark.
• Experience in extracting data from source databases.
• Excellent judgment regarding data quality, with the ability to make technical decisions and explain trade-offs.
• Knowledge of software engineering practices, including Git, CI/CD, and a disciplined software development lifecycle (SDLC).
• Comfortable working as a senior individual contributor, setting standards, and mentoring without formal line management.
• Typically 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of managing production pipelines and data models end to end.
• Proficient in Python for data engineering, pipelines, tooling, and automation.
• Experience with AI coding agents such as Claude Code.
• Strong foundation in data science, particularly in statistical or machine-learning methods.
• Knowledge of AI/ML data patterns, including LLM-ready data, text-to-SQL, and RAG.
• Experience with semantic/metrics layers like dbt metrics or Cube.dev.
• Understanding of data governance, GDPR, or data anonymization practices.
• Background in SQL Server.
• Experience in a SaaS or product-focused company.
