Staff Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the ClickHouse schema, data model, and migrations.

• Manage materialized views, ensuring optimal performance and scalability.

• Oversee data ingestion processes, lifecycle management, and operational capabilities.

• Create reports and analytics utilizing Metabase.

• Facilitate data storytelling initiatives.

• Deliver top-tier data storage, reporting, analytics, and visualization solutions.

• Develop automations, Claude configurations, test harnesses, and documentation to enable safe contributions from both humans and AI.

• Establish technical conventions while making practical depth-versus-breadth decisions.

• Collaborate across SQL, Go, Python, Helm, and potentially TypeScript.

• Accurately materialize, report, and scale security posture data without directly managing connectors, discovery, detection, classification, risk scoring, PostgreSQL, or core application services.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years in data/analytics engineering, with prior experience as a tech lead.

• Significant experience managing an OLAP database in a production environment.

• Experience with ClickHouse is ideal; familiarity with Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake, and others may also be acceptable.

• Strong proficiency in SQL and analytical-engine fluency is preferred.

• Knowledge of materialized views, partitioning, and OLAP database design is essential.

• Ability to identify and systematically resolve performance and memory issues at scale, including OOMs, read amplification, runaway joins, and recursive/graph queries.

• Proven experience in BI/reporting with dashboards and a report-facing layer utilized by actual users.

• Experience with Metabase is a strong advantage; familiarity with Looker, Superset, Tableau, and Power BI is transferable.

• Comfort with Golang and Kubernetes is highly desirable.

• Ability to be the sole accountable individual for a specific area while making practical depth-versus-breadth decisions.

• Willingness to work within an AI-first team using Claude Code skills/slash commands and authoring configurations.

• Preferred experience in customer-facing roles and enablement.

• Background in data science or statistics is preferred.
