Senior Data Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Estonia, +5 more countries.

📋 Description

• Take charge of and enhance Creditstar's data platform utilizing AWS and Snowflake, ensuring it remains reliable, efficient, and scalable.

• Improve platform performance, security, secrets management, and observability throughout the data stack.

• Monitor and optimize costs associated with Snowflake and AWS while leading FinOps initiatives within the data team.

• Promote data governance by establishing data ownership, access and PII controls, data lineage, and ensuring audit readiness in compliance with GDPR and internal policies.

• Establish and maintain engineering standards for testing, version control, code reviews, CI/CD, and Git-based workflows.

• Oversee the integration layer that connects internal and external data sources.

• Lead the response to data platform incidents with sustainable solutions.

• Collaborate with DevOps on the underlying infrastructure by defining requirements and evaluating solutions.

• Assist BI Engineers, Analysts, and Data Scientists by providing a governed, documented, self-service platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience in managing and enhancing a cloud data platform using AWS and Snowflake.

• A solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, security, and cost management, enabling you to set requirements and evaluate solutions alongside DevOps.

• Practical experience in data governance, access control, and PII management.

• Background in a regulated environment such as finance, banking, or AML/KYC.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.

• A reliable, ownership-driven mentality: you persist until a problem is fully resolved and does not recur.

• A structured working approach with the confidence to establish standards where they may not yet exist.

• An entrepreneurial mindset capable of thriving in a rapidly growing environment.

• Proficient in spoken and written English.

• Nice to have: Proven experience in cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with modern table formats such as Apache Iceberg and Delta Lake.

• Nice to have: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• Experience with AWS services including EC2, EMR, MWAA, and RDS.

• Proficiency in Snowflake.

• Knowledge of Airflow and DBT.

• Familiarity with Spark and Docker.

• Experience with Kafka.
