This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the role-based access model, which includes managing role hierarchy, least-privilege grants, and scoped access for service accounts, BI tools, and AI agents.
• Oversee grants as code and facilitate the access review cycle.
• Manage Snowflake administration, which encompasses security and network policies, data masking, PII controls, storage organization, compute costs, and data retention.
• Expand the medallion architecture and Terraform-managed footprint, focusing on state, module design, and environment promotion.
• Handle data ingestion via Fivetran, third-party connectors, and custom extraction methods.
• Direct orchestration efforts across dbt Platform and GitHub Actions, including materialization strategy, model performance, incremental patterns, and latency reduction.
• Develop source-schema change detection and establish observability through freshness SLAs, alerting, drift detection, and incident ownership.
• Contribute to foundational modeling efforts, including source-to-staging patterns, conformed dimensions, shared entities, and slowly changing dimensions (SCD) patterns.
• Define the architecture for dbt projects, including Git-based development workflows, CI, testing standards, macro and package libraries, and isolated development environments.
• Collaborate on data retention and customer data handling policies and implement necessary technical controls.
• Establish AI-assisted development practices utilizing Claude Code skills, agents, and evaluations.
• Create tools and setups to enhance productivity for new engineers and analysts.
• Document systems and processes comprehensively.
• Mentor engineers and analysts, setting a high technical standard for data engineering.
• Define the technical direction for a data platform that manages product usage, case and firm data, go-to-market systems, and AI-agent queries.
• Report to the Head of Data Engineering within the central data team.
• Minimum of 8 years in data engineering, with experience at a staff or senior individual contributor level guiding the technical direction for others.
• Extensive Snowflake administration experience, particularly in designing a role-based access model from the ground up, focusing on role hierarchy, least-privilege grants, and scoping access for service accounts and tools.
• Familiarity with data masking, PII controls, and cost management strategies.
• Proficient in Python and SQL.
• Proven production experience in data ingestion (using Fivetran or a similar tool), orchestration (through dbt platform, GitHub Actions, or Airflow), and cloud infrastructure.
• Advanced knowledge of dbt, including modeling patterns, macros, incremental models, testing, and slim or state-based continuous integration.
• Experience in building Slowly Changing Dimension (SCD) tables from multiple sources.
• Proven ability to enhance the dbt developer experience for contributors beyond the core engineering team.
• Experience with layered warehouse architecture, such as medallion or equivalent structures.
• Competence in managing infrastructure as code using Terraform, including state and environment promotion.
• Experience in establishing an access and governance layer that has successfully passed audits.
• Demonstrated success in building reliability practices from the ground up, including freshness SLAs, alerting, incident response, and schema change detection.
• Proficient in AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code, including agentic pipeline design and skill-based workflows.
• Comfortable integrating tools via MCP servers.
• Excellent communication skills, mentoring abilities, and a capacity to build in areas where playbooks are not available.
