Staff Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and uphold a dependable, seamless, and impactful analytics layer across both product and operational divisions.

• Lead significant initiatives from concept to completion utilizing sound software design principles.

• Convert raw transactional data into star schemas that encompass orders, distributors, suppliers, catalog offerings, and financial processes.

• Detect and resolve slow queries, unoptimized transformations, and areas lacking proper testing.

• Manage automated Fivetran synchronizations and adjust to schema changes.

• Establish and protect standardized logic within dbt data marts.

• Create Snowflake and Metabase layers to facilitate self-service analytics access.

• Perform in-depth exploratory data analyses.

• Guide engineers and analysts through reviews and ongoing assistance.

• Collaborate with product leaders and engineering managers to translate strategy into technical objectives.

• Utilize AI coding assistants, including Cursor, CodeRabbit, and Claude, with human verification.

• Contribute to distributor benchmarks and AI-enhanced query access for organization-wide decision-making.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a closely related field.

• Preferably experience in a SaaS or product-focused setting.

• Strong production experience with SQL, dbt, and a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake or a comparable system.

• Proficient in Python for analytics tools and automation processes.

• Comprehensive understanding of dimensional modeling and relational databases.

• Experience with managed data ingestion using Fivetran.

• Experience in designing BI environments in Metabase for self-service utilization.

• Proven history of mentoring and developing engineers or analysts.

• Strong technical judgment and practical business trade-off skills.

• Customer-centric mindset and commitment to continuous improvement and feedback.

• Experience effectively utilizing AI-assisted development tools.

• Familiarity with Snowflake AI tools or similar technologies.

• Must be eligible to work in Canada, excluding Quebec.
