Staff Backend Engineer, Ruby – AI Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Establish and lead the technical vision for the DAP Repository Flows team, making architectural choices that influence onboarding and repository/background processes.

• Spearhead the design and implementation of autonomous and scheduled agents that function on customer codebases, leveraging the Duo Agent Platform.

• Create and enhance the DAP onboarding journey to enable customers to set up a project quickly and efficiently.

• Collaborate with teams across the wider DAP organization to ensure alignment on interfaces, shared patterns, and platform functionalities.

• Guide senior and intermediate engineers, assess designs and code, and enhance the overall technical standards of the team.

• Identify and tackle the most challenging technical issues the team encounters, while proactively preventing them through effective design.

• Foster a culture of autonomy, ownership, high-context sharing, and asynchronous collaboration.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive, hands-on experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails in production environments.

• Proven experience in integrating LLMs into products, rather than training ML models.

• Experience in developing agentic systems with autonomous or semi-autonomous agents acting on behalf of users.

• A history of designing and delivering complex, high-scale systems.

• Experience in steering technical direction across multiple teams.

• Excellent written communication skills and the ability to thrive in a distributed, async-first setting.

• Staff-level engineering judgment and influence, including the ability to set direction, unblock others, and enhance team impact.
