This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.
• Provide technical guidance across the team and related teams.
• Lead extensive, cross-functional backend projects.
• Drive the development of modular backend, service, data, and platform architectures.
• Transform monolithic and legacy backends into modular, reusable, and independently operated systems.
• Establish standards for APIs, contracts, compatibility, schema evolution, testing, security, performance, observability, operability, and maintainability.
• Create patterns for dependency management, data ownership, event handling, failure isolation, service maturity, and operational documentation.
• Set up Go service patterns and Kubernetes practices; support Rust adoption where suitable.
• Engage in on-call duties and incident response, serving as a technical escalation point.
• Influence the technical direction across teams and collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership on roadmap and investment strategies.
• Mentor Senior and Intermediate engineers while aiding in the reduction of technical debt.
• Lead the integration of AI-assisted and agentic workflows with an emphasis on quality, security, privacy, and operational safeguards.
• A proven track record of technical leadership across multiple teams or extensive product areas.
• Profound backend architecture and production experience with complex applications, services, or platforms.
• Experience in scaling or managing APIs, service platforms, data systems, modular monoliths, or shared backend components.
• Background in modernizing a monolithic or legacy backend architecture in production environments.
• Familiarity with modular architecture concepts such as bounded contexts, package encapsulation, ports and adapters, service extraction, event-driven boundaries, or similar methodologies.
• Ability to foster alignment through clear written proposals and decision documentation.
• Capability to balance customer outcomes, delivery speed, technical health, reliability, and long-term platform investments.
• Experience in mentoring engineers and establishing standards through code review, documentation, and exemplary practices.
• Production experience with AI-assisted or agentic engineering workflows.
• Desirable experience with Go services and APIs at scale.
• Desirable experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native operations.
• Desirable experience with Rust adoption or production ownership.
• Desirable experience with Ruby/Rails modularization and large monolith modernization.
• Desirable experience with PostgreSQL scaling, data partitioning, queues, messaging, or distributed systems.
• Desirable experience in security-sensitive product or software supply chain engineering.
• Desirable experience across SaaS, single-tenant, self-managed, or air-gapped deployment constraints.
