Lead Backend Engineer, Payments Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain backend services utilizing Python 3.11 with Django / DRF.

• Spearhead technical projects pertaining to payment infrastructure and integrations.

• Enhance system reliability, observability, and operational excellence.

• Collaborate closely with Product, Operations, Compliance, and external partners.

• Analyze production issues and determine root causes.

• Refine legacy systems and mitigate technical debt.

• Facilitate architectural discussions and guide technical decision-making.

• Mentor engineers through code reviews, collaborative programming, and technical support.

• Assume responsibility for the delivery, planning, and execution of intricate projects.

• Contribute to the growth and development of the engineering team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in backend development.

• Proficient in Python and Django.

• Proven experience in leading projects or engineering teams.

• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, integrations, and system reliability.

• Familiarity with complex legacy systems and managing technical debt.

• Capability to bring clarity in uncertain situations.

• Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management abilities.

• Strong sense of ownership and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

• Proficient in English (B2 level or higher) and fluent in Russian.

• Nice to have: experience in fintech, payments, banking, or other highly regulated sectors.

• Nice to have: familiarity with AWS, Docker, MySQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, or Kafka.

• Nice to have: experience in leading modernization or system migration efforts.
