This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.
• Collaborate across various program areas to address complex legal requirements.
• Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts.
• Offer guidance on the structuring of legal entities, relationships, and transactions.
• Provide advice on relevant laws, regulations, and policies concerning nonprofit operations, governance, compliance, intellectual property, data privacy, lobbying and FARA, antitrust, and anti-corruption.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks by creating and enforcing company policies, procedures, and legal templates.
• Work alongside the finance team to address compliance matters and protocols.
• Partner with the subgrants team to ensure outgoing subaward agreements are in compliance with the original RMI-funder agreements.
• Coordinate with external law firms across various practice areas and jurisdictions.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned.
• Report directly to the Senior Legal Director.
• Collaborate closely with teams throughout RMI while managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state bar.
• Over 7 years of experience, ideally in a general law practice with a focus on contract, corporate, and transactional law.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Capability to clarify complex legal issues and terminology.
• A holistic approach to problem-solving.
• Experience or knowledge in nonprofit law, corporate entity formations, social enterprise and impact investing, emerging companies and venture capital, intellectual property, or global privacy law is preferable.
• Ability to quickly understand and integrate legal, business, technical, and practical analyses.
• Willingness and ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Annual bonus target of 10%.
