Corporate Attorney

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Offer legal assistance across retail and wholesale brokerage, underwriting, and claims operations.

• Oversee and manage litigation matters, specifically focusing on insurance defense and disputes related to claims.

• Supervise and collaborate with external counsel, ensuring effective case strategies, managing costs, and aligning with business goals.

• Review, draft, and negotiate both commercial and non-commercial insurance agreements, including administrative services agreements, brokerage agreements, claims services agreements, employment contracts, and various corporate service agreements.

• Provide legal counsel to internal business units regarding legal risks, regulatory compliance, and operational issues.

• Assist with dispute resolution processes, including arbitration, pre-litigation strategies, mediation, and negotiation of settlements.

• Stay updated on changes in insurance law and regulations, advising leadership on possible implications.

• Work collaboratively across compliance, risk management, and executive teams on corporate initiatives.

• Report directly to the General Counsel.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of pertinent legal experience, ideally within insurance, brokerage, claims, or financial services.

• Strong litigation background, particularly in insurance defense and claims services.

• Proficient in drafting and negotiating intricate commercial and insurance-related agreements.

• Proven ability to manage external counsel and develop litigation strategies.

• Understanding of insurance regulatory frameworks and industry standards.

• Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and communication abilities.

• Capacity to handle multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

• Active bar membership in good standing (California Bar membership preferred but not mandatory).

• Preferred experience in-house within an insurance company, brokerage, claims, or related financial services organization.

• Experience in supporting compliance with multi-state regulations and operations is preferred.

• Familiarity with domestic and offshore insurance and reinsurance structures and agreements is preferred.

• Preferred experience in supporting corporate functions such as information technology, regulatory compliance, human resources, and marketing.
