Staff Accountant II – Generalist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Report directly to the Controller while receiving moderate supervision from the Functional Manager.

• Maintain, record, and balance accounting and financial statements, along with associated documents and reports.

• Assist in the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial information compilation.

• Create specialized reports for reconciliations, internal controls, and financial management purposes.

• Support the month-end and year-end closing processes.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate and address financial discrepancies and variances.

• Ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures.

• Provide necessary documentation and analytical data for both internal and external audits.

• Engage in finance and accounting process improvement initiatives.

• Process and review routine accounting transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, approvals, and policy compliance.

• Review employee expense and travel transactions.

• Conduct corporate credit card reconciliations and follow up on any missing documentation or approvals.

• Assist with vendor payment activities, which include ACH, positive pay, payment inquiries, and routine vendor account issues.

• Offer customer service to employees and vendors regarding accounts payable, expenses, travel, credit card, and other accounting-related matters.

• Complete account reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and resolve routine reconciling items.

• Aid in journal entries, transaction corrections, and general ledger activities.

• Maintain precise accounting records and supporting documentation.

• Research and resolve routine accounting questions and discrepancies following established protocols.

• Support audit preparations and ongoing enhancements to accounting processes and internal controls.

• Execute other accounting duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• Applicants must be authorized to work and physically reside within the 50 United States.

• High school diploma or GED, along with two years of accounting experience, or an Associate degree in accounting, finance, or a related field with at least one year of accounting experience.

• Intermediate proficiency in Excel spreadsheets.

• Familiarity with MS Office, Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, and similar tools.

• A stable internet connection capable of supporting video calls and an EarthScope computer equipped with cloud-based applications.

• Ability to work across various accounting functions and adapt to changing departmental priorities.

• Prior experience with corporate credit card administration and reconciliation is preferred.

• Experience in supporting accounts payable and vendor payment activities is preferred.

• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.

• Prior experience with Deltek CostPoint is preferred.

• Familiarity with Concur or other expense report software is preferred.

• Capability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion, diligence, and sound judgment.

• Understanding of accounting principles and practices.

• Knowledge of procurement standards and contracts.

• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy are essential.

• Excellent mathematical and reasoning abilities.

• Capacity to compute, analyze, and interpret data effectively.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• A solid customer service orientation.

• Ability to work efficiently with financial data and accounting support schedules in Excel.

• Availability consistent with EarthScope practices; hours may exceed 40 hours per week, especially during travel.

• Ability to meet physical demands, including prolonged standing, sitting, hand and finger dexterity, talking/hearing, and occasionally lifting up to 10 pounds.
