Management Accountant – Australia Focus

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Assume responsibility for financial planning, management reporting, cash flow oversight, budgeting, and financial controls.

• Create and manage short-term, long-term, and rolling 13-week cash flow forecasts.

• Track cash position, customer receipts, supplier payments, payroll, and other significant cash movements.

• Determine cash flow needs and shortfalls, recommending strategies to enhance cash conversion and working capital.

• Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting activities.

• Develop revenue, expense, payroll, and cash flow budgets along with monthly or quarterly forecasts.

• Compare actual performance against budget and forecast, providing explanations for notable variances.

• Prepare monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow reports.

• Create management dashboards and financial KPI reports.

• Analyze revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, profitability, trends, risks, and opportunities.

• Present financial results and commercially focused insights to management.

• Examine profitability by customer, contract, project, and service line within the MSP/IT services sector.

• Monitor recurring revenue, Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR), managed service contract performance, contract margins, and customer billing.

• Analyze labor utilization, employee/contractor expenses, software, cloud, hardware, and third-party supplier costs.

• Evaluate project profitability and assist in pricing decisions.

• Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies and controls.

• Review Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, reconciliations, approval processes, aged receivables, revenue recognition, and billing procedures.

• Oversee GST treatment and support BAS, PAYG, payroll, superannuation, company tax, year-end accounts, and audit/accountant requirements.

• Communicate with external accountants, tax advisors, and other professional consultants.

• Monitor working capital, debtor aging, collection performance, supplier payment terms, and customer credit exposure.

• Enhance and streamline financial processes and reporting systems.

• Automate reporting and improve integration between accounting, billing, payroll, and operational systems.

• Elevate financial data quality while minimizing manual spreadsheets and repetitive tasks.

• Convert financial data into actionable recommendations for business owners and senior management.


⛳️ Requirements

• Prior experience as a Management Accountant, Commercial Accountant, Finance Manager, or a similar position.

• Proven experience working for an Australian business is essential.

• Practical knowledge of Australian accounting and taxation regulations, including GST, BAS, PAYG, payroll, superannuation, and company tax.

• Previous experience in an MSP or IT services environment is required.

• Strong expertise in cash flow forecasting.

• Robust experience in budgeting and financial forecasting.

• Experience in preparing monthly management accounts and management reports.

• Strong financial control and balance sheet reconciliation skills.

• Advanced or strong skills in Microsoft Excel.

• Familiarity with accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, or equivalent.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Exceptional attention to detail.

• Ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial managers and business owners.

• Experience with recurring monthly contracts, managed service agreements, professional services/project revenue, customer profitability, resource and labor utilization, employee and contractor costs, software and cloud licensing costs, hardware procurement and resale, vendor and distributor costs, and recurring customer billing.

• Experience with MSP platforms or PSA systems like ConnectWise, Autotask, HaloPSA, or similar systems is highly regarded.

• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field is preferred.

• CPA Australia, CA ANZ, CIMA, or equivalent qualification, or currently pursuing one, is preferred.
