This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico, +3 more countries.
• Oversee the complete accounting operations for a rapidly growing premium food brand distributed through major retail channels, natural foods, and direct-to-consumer outlets.
• Transition daily accounting responsibilities from an external firm to an in-house team.
• Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual closings according to a proactive schedule.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank and credit card reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and intercompany transactions.
• Ensure balanced and reconciled balance sheets along with timely income statements that include actionable commentary on variances.
• Reconcile inventory of finished goods, raw materials, and packaging across various locations and distribution channels.
• Monitor inventory throughout the stages of purchase, production, warehousing, and sale.
• Investigate and address discrepancies between the ledger, warehouse documentation, and third-party systems.
• Develop inventory reports detailing stock levels, valuation, and visibility into cost of goods sold (COGS).
• Implement US GAAP revenue recognition principles for consumer packaged goods (CPG) and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), covering aspects like gross-to-net, trade spending, slotting fees, promotions, and returns.
• Maintain books that are ready for audits and lenders; take charge of audit preparation and assist auditors and tax professionals.
• Handle deductions and chargebacks from retailers and distributors, including shortages, market costs, spoilage, and freight issues.
• Validate, contest, document, track, and recover deductions; engage with customers and distributors regarding accounts receivable, collections, and disputes.
• Examine margins, COGS, vendor expenditures, and freight costs to uncover potential savings.
• Manage cash reporting, accounts receivable aging, vendor terms, and inputs for forecasting and line-of-credit needs.
• Take ownership of sales tax, 1099s, internal controls, and readiness for due diligence.
• Create and maintain live dashboards for tracking close status, accounts receivable aging, inventory, deductions and recovery, cash flow, and margins.
• Lead the cloud-based finance systems, including Xero and Airtable.
• Integrate and automate processes involving ledger management, banking, Airtable, deduction oversight, OCR, and settlement tools.
• Utilize Claude on a daily basis for reconciliation, categorization, dispute package preparation, analysis, and process documentation while ensuring accuracy.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of comprehensive accounting experience, including managing monthly closings and preparing financial statements.
• Experience in CPG inventory reconciliation, with a solid understanding of inventory flow within a food or consumer goods brand and across various locations and channels.
• Proven capability to create dashboards that provide real-time insights into financial and operational metrics.
• Strong proficiency in Claude AI with daily usage and output verification.
• Working knowledge of US GAAP, with experience in supporting companies based in the United States.
• Comfortable managing and utilizing Xero and Airtable.
• Familiarity with trade spending, deductions, and disputes related to chargebacks from distributors or retailers.
• Exceptional written and verbal English skills with proactive communication across different time zones.
• Experience in CPG, FMCG, food and beverage, or consumer goods industries is highly preferred.
• CPA or local equivalent is a plus.
• Experience working with natural channel distributors such as UNFI or KeHE is desirable.
• Background supporting a rapidly growing or venture-backed consumer brand is advantageous.
• Previous experience transitioning accounting functions from an external firm to in-house is a plus.
• Experience in developing automated accounting workflows, including OCR, settlement reconciliation, or deduction management tools is beneficial.
• Updated resume is mandatory.

• Compensation in USD, paid bi-monthly (on the 15th and 30th).
