SQL Database Administrator, DBA

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Manage and uphold Microsoft SQL Server databases along with their servers.

• Provide support for both standalone SQL Server and SQL Cluster environments.

• Install, configure, apply patches, enhance, and sustain SQL Server environments.

• Design and set up databases to meet application and business needs.

• Oversee database availability, capacity, performance, and overall health.

• Utilize Idera and SolarWinds for database monitoring and to proactively detect issues.

• Conduct SQL performance tuning along with index and query optimization.

• Perform and validate database backups and restorations.

• Implement and evaluate High Availability and Disaster Recovery strategies.

• Resolve issues related to databases, servers, and application integration.

• Create SQL scripts and automation tools for routine database management tasks.

• Ensure database security, encryption, auditing, and compliance with operational standards.

• Address incidents, service requests, and RFCs via ServiceNow.

• Engage in database maintenance and change-management initiatives.

• Collaborate with senior DBAs, developers, infrastructure teams, and other technical staff.

• Maintain comprehensive technical and operational documentation.

• Contribute to weekly reports on support activities and accomplishments.

• Partake in scheduled after-hours maintenance, patching, and server support as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in database administration.

• Practical experience in administering Microsoft SQL Server.

• Familiarity with several of the following: Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server Clustering, SQL scripting, backup and restore processes, database patching, performance tuning, monitoring and alerting, High Availability, Disaster Recovery, database security, scripting and automation, and troubleshooting incidents.

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

• Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within cross-functional teams.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Microsoft/SQL professional certification is preferred.

• Experience in federal government IT is preferred.

• Background in cloud database administration is preferred.

• Familiarity with ServiceNow is preferred.

• Experience with Idera and/or SolarWinds is preferred.

• Knowledge or experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, and MS Access is preferred.
