Special Education Teacher

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Instruct a small group of students in a self-contained classroom environment.

• Deliver five hours of virtual direct instruction each day, along with flexible time allocated for lesson planning, grading, and IEP responsibilities.

• Create a differentiated learning atmosphere tailored to student needs.

• Implement project-based learning techniques in a virtual setting.

• Collaborate effectively with curriculum developers, clinical teams, administrative staff, fellow educators, and support personnel.

• Customize learning experiences for each student.

• Foster a social-emotional learning environment.

• Educate approximately 10 students with the assistance of a paraprofessional.

• Maintain a work schedule from Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., adhering to a 10-month school calendar.

⛳️ Requirements

• REQUIRED: Illinois PEL with LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist I), or the capability to obtain the Illinois PEL via out-of-state license reciprocity.

• Proficient in using video-conferencing platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams.

• Adaptability to teach across various grade levels as student demographics evolve.

• Experience working with youth facing emotional, behavioral, cognitive, and academic challenges.

• Competence in creating and designing digital content for engaging online lessons.

• Strong classroom management skills tailored for virtual environments.

• Expertise in differentiating instruction for a diverse range of learners.

• Excellent interpersonal abilities, capable of communicating and forming relationships with individuals at all levels and from diverse backgrounds.

• Proficient in utilizing Digital Curriculum & Assessment tools.

• Ability to resolve basic technology issues, manage digital file storage, navigate browser extensions, and conduct basic computer troubleshooting.

• Familiarity with assistive technology tools, including text-to-speech, speech-to-text, screen readers, AAC applications, and accessibility settings.

• Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous documentation, with the ability to maintain accurate records in a virtual context.
