Software Engineer, Rust

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance the Rerun viewer along with cross-language SDKs for managing substantial volumes of 2D, 3D, time-series, and statistical data in real-time.

• Integrate the viewer with Rerun Hub to enable querying and visualizing datasets that exceed the capacity of a user's local machine.

• Make informed technology and architectural decisions throughout the entire stack.

• Ensure the system remains maintainable as data volumes increase.

• Collaborate effectively with Hub, backend, and design teams.

• Analyze and optimize user workflows across desktop platforms and the web.

• Contribute to open-source projects that benefit the community.

• Engage directly with the open-source community and customers who work with very large datasets.

• Assist users in achieving exceptional results with Rerun.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient programming abilities in Rust or another compiled language.

• Capable of reading and working within the Rust codebase.

• Versatile generalist with UI skills related to interface, rendering, data management, and infrastructure.

• Experience in interactive data visualization, especially with large datasets and intricate visual structures.

• Background in developing real-time, high-performance applications.

• Ability to thrive in ambiguous situations and work independently.

• Excellent communication skills in English.

• Experience in contributing to or maintaining open-source projects, particularly those with an engaged community (nice-to-have).

• Background in robotics, simulation, streaming, rendering, or game engines; RViz experience is an advantage (nice-to-have).

• Familiarity with GPU rendering pipelines such as wgpu and performance optimization techniques (nice-to-have).
