Software Engineer, L5 – JavaScript Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Define and enhance internal CLIs and SDKs for JavaScript applications across browser, backend, and library environments.

• Collaborate with JavaScript development teams to establish cleaner and more independent platform interfaces.

• Take ownership of the core application development platform, including CI/CD workflows, supporting services, and libraries.

• Enhance platform observability and performance while safeguarding business-critical infrastructure.

• Lead the monorepo and local development experience across various software categories.

• Manage infrastructure and deployment integrations with Netflix’s wider deployment ecosystem.

• Provide support to JavaScript developers, enhancing their daily software development and deployment experience.

• Offer technical design and code feedback that improves engineering standards within the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in designing and operating CI/CD and release systems at scale, including build pipelines, caching, incremental builds, artifact management, and ensuring deployment safety.

• Background in supporting engineers who develop on a platform and enhancing the ergonomics of developer tooling.

• Capability to define and advance interfaces, including internal CLIs and SDKs.

• Skill in collaborating across teams, aligning on shared interfaces, negotiating boundaries, and facilitating progress.

• Proficiency in designing for extensibility while considering practical constraints.

• Ability to balance immediate customer support requirements with the need for long-term technical debt reduction and feature delivery.

• Proven track record of translating technical ambiguity into clear requirements.

• Diligence in validating changes to shared infrastructure prior to release.

• Capacity to enhance engineering quality through patterns, interfaces, design feedback, and code reviews.

• Familiarity with JavaScript software, application development platforms, CI/CD workflows, infrastructure, deployment integrations, monorepos, local development tools, observability, and performance optimization.
