Software Engineer – Java Spring Boot

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Become a part of the Software, Applications, and Analytics Center of Excellence as a senior backend software engineer.

• Create cloud-based analytics solutions and tailor backend applications for NOAA.

• Design, develop, and deliver backend solutions and services for both customers and internal teams.

• Engage directly with customer systems to address and resolve their challenges.

• Identify best practices for backend development and construct effective database architectures.

• Develop architectures for microservices and RESTful APIs.

• Contribute to opportunities for new business and enhance Data & Software Engineering capabilities.

• Create and deploy backend software utilizing DevSecOps, microservices, RESTful APIs, and AI/ML solutions.

• Collaborate with customers and internal teams to evaluate needs and convert them into technical solutions.

• Guide and mentor junior developers while providing technical leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

• Over 12 years of professional experience in backend software development.

• At least 5 years of practical experience with Java and the Spring Boot framework.

• Advanced proficiency in Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Security, and Spring Cloud.

• Significant experience in designing and implementing RESTful APIs and microservices architectures.

• Familiarity with Agile methodologies, such as Scrum and Kanban.

• Expertise in relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases like MongoDB, ElasticSearch, and OpenSearch.

• Experience with Hibernate/JPA and Spring Data JPA.

• Proficient in using Docker and Kubernetes.

• Experience deploying microservices in automated DevSecOps/CI/CD pipelines.

• Skilled in Maven or Gradle.

• Familiarity with JUnit, Mockito, Spring Test, and integration testing.

• Understanding of AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud technologies and architectures.

• Experience with RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar messaging systems and event-driven architectures.

• Familiarity with Tomcat, Netty, or Undertow embedded servers.

• Understanding of SOLID principles, DDD, and Clean Architecture.

• Proficient with Git and collaborative development practices.

• Ability to juggle multiple projects in a dynamic environment.

• Capacity to understand and prioritize customer needs effectively.

• Ability to mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

• Commitment to NOAA's mission and proven expertise in Federal Government data systems.

• Must be a US Citizen capable of obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
