This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance services for ExtraHop's core Framework systems.
• Take ownership of moderately complex to complex features with minimal guidance.
• Collaborate across networking layers to implement and enhance protocol support.
• Engage in technical design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions.
• Create clear and concise technical documentation.
• Participate in sprint planning, code reviews, and retrospectives.
• Uphold high standards for code quality and test coverage.
• Work alongside Product, platform, infrastructure, and cloud teams to define technical roadmaps.
• Deconstruct ambiguous problems and balance technical debt with project delivery.
• Investigate, diagnose, and resolve production and performance issues autonomously.
• Conduct root-cause analysis and implement preventive measures.
• Contribute to platform modernization and assess or adopt new technologies and frameworks.
• Participate in on-call rotations.
• Enhance system observability, reliability, and operational readiness.
• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline that emphasizes systematic and analytical thinking.
• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience in designing, building, and operating production systems at scale.
• Strong proficiency in C and C++.
• Experience in developing on Linux Systems (multi-threading, memory management, IPC, etc.).
• Proven capability to build and maintain performance-critical systems.
• Demonstrated ability to debug complex issues (e.g., using gdb, core dumps, performance tools).
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals.
• Strong command of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
• Ability to break down complex problems into clear, actionable engineering tasks.
• Capacity to operate independently, manage competing priorities, and drive tasks to completion with minimal oversight.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills with a growth mindset and a customer-first approach.
• Experience with network protocols (e.g., HTTP, SMB, Kerberos, TLS, Microsoft protocols, or similar) is preferred.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) or distributed systems is preferred.
• Experience with observability, on-call practices, and production systems is preferred.
• Scripting experience (Python or similar) is preferred.
