Software Engineer III – Data

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Execute the implementation of new ingestion sources from start to finish based on the design provided by a senior engineer, which includes developing connector code, creating DAGs, defining schemas, monitoring, and registering in the catalog.

• Enhance the current ingestion framework of the team when a new source requires a pattern that is not supported.

• Independently analyze pipeline failures, identify known issue categories, and deliver documented resolutions.

• Recognize downstream consumers and potential risks prior to launching new pipelines, and highlight any gaps during the review of specifications.

• Prepare comprehensive handovers when escalating unresolved issues.

• Evaluate peers' pipeline pull requests and identify non-obvious issues, such as absent idempotency checks and race conditions.

• Transform vague data-quality inquiries into structured investigations by tracing data lineage from the source to the data warehouse.

• Raise concerns during specification reviews by posing specific, well-informed questions.

• Assist with data security and governance initiatives, including PII masking and access control measures.

• Contribute to data delivery initiatives, including reverse ETL integrations.

• Cultivate relationships with internal stakeholders to help define and clarify requirements.

• Mentor DE2s on significant projects and guide them in applying team conventions.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3–5 years of professional experience in software or data engineering.

• Proficient in SQL and Python, with substantial experience in building and managing production data pipelines.

• Ability to independently investigate and troubleshoot pipeline issues before escalation.

• Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (such as Airflow) and cloud data warehouses/lakehouses (such as Snowflake or Databricks).

• Strong grasp of data pipeline concepts, including idempotency, schema evolution, backfills, and data quality/testing.

• Experience providing meaningful feedback during code reviews, beyond just style or formatting observations.

• Excellent communication skills — able to write clear technical handovers, ask insightful questions during specification reviews, and communicate data lineage investigations to non-technical stakeholders.

• Proven history of taking ownership of known-class problems from start to finish, rather than requiring step-by-step guidance.

• Experience in extending or creating reusable pipeline frameworks/templates.

• Familiarity with reverse ETL tools or patterns, PII masking, or data access governance (RBAC).

• Experience with observability and monitoring tools (e.g., Datadog) for pipeline health and alerting.

• Some experience in mentoring or informally supporting junior engineers.

• Background in gaming, betting, e-commerce, or other regulated/high-compliance industries.
