This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Develop and enhance Affirm’s Cache Services utilizing Redis and Valkey.
• Take ownership of cluster migrations from start to finish, executing them in phases.
• Implement cache clusters for production through meticulous capacity and shard planning, failover and replication configuration, upgrades, and phased rollouts.
• Automate the provisioning process, configuration adjustments, and access via audited self-service workflows.
• Manage the production fleet by defining Service Level Objectives (SLOs), creating alerts, and minimizing routine maintenance tasks.
• Collaborate with client teams to devise caching strategies, focusing on key design, Time-to-Live (TTL) settings, consistency, and client timeouts.
• Decompose larger projects into manageable tasks and execute them across multiple phases.
• Work alongside product management, design, and analytics teams to inform product development choices and trade-offs.
• Develop and track metrics, escalate issues, and assist in on-call operations.
• Engage in growth and development initiatives, including conducting interviews.
• A minimum of 2 years experience as a software engineer.
• Proven experience in designing, developing, and launching backend systems.
• Proficiency in either Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, AWS, MySQL, Redis/Valkey, Terraform, and Kubernetes.
• Hands-on experience with Redis, Valkey, or a similar in-memory database.
• Knowledge of replication, persistence, cluster mode, eviction policies, and failure scenarios.
• Ability to analyze hit rates, tail latency, hot keys, stampedes, and consistency issues.
• Experience in automating infrastructure operations with Terraform, Kubernetes, and Python.
• Background in on-call responsibilities for a stateful service.
• Capability to produce clear, well-tested, and extensible code across various software components.
• Comfort with navigating extensive codebases, debugging, and performing code reviews.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be residing in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.
