Software Development Engineer – Test 3

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Oversee and enhance Buildkite CI, focusing on pipelines, agents, queues, plugins, as well as build performance and reliability.

• Provide support for the cloud environment utilized by manual, automated, and CI systems, which includes upgrades and monitoring.

• Develop new test pipelines to accommodate various features and platforms.

• Create automated tests for components, integration, end-to-end, and stability.

• Broaden platform coverage across different Linux distributions, kernel versions, and container runtimes.

• Contribute to the development of test tools for executing and reproducing tests and scenarios.

• Investigate and resolve issues related to flaky tests and unreliable infrastructure.

• Instrument the CI system to reveal build health, duration trends, and failure patterns.

• Collaborate with infrastructure as code and transition from manually built components.

• Partner with developers and release engineering to ensure testability and readiness for release.

• Proactively identify quality risks.

• Assist in maintaining the CI and testing infrastructure.

⛳️ Requirements

• Several years of professional experience in test automation, SDET, QA engineering, or a related role.

• Proven history of writing and maintaining automated tests.

• Proficient programming skills in Python, Go, C++, or Rust, with a willingness to learn additional languages.

• Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, such as Buildkite, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.

• Hands-on cloud experience, preferably with AWS, covering IAM, computing, networking, and basic storage.

• Familiarity with containers and Kubernetes, including EKS, AKS, and GKE.

• Exposure to infrastructure as code tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible, or a strong interest in learning these technologies.

• Proficient with Git and modern code review processes.

• Understanding of Linux fundamentals, including processes, filesystems, networking, systemd, permissions, packaging, and command-line troubleshooting.

• Legal authorization to work in the location where the position is advertised.
