This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.
• Engage in all stages of the software development life cycle, which encompasses requirements gathering with Product Managers, technical design, estimation, sprint planning, coding, testing, deployments, and on-call support.
• Take ownership, operate, and maintain team services within a distributed production environment.
• Design and implement real-time services that meet high throughput and low latency criteria.
• Verify, deploy, and operationalize services effectively.
• Collaborate closely with stakeholders to comprehend customer needs and deliver straightforward, robust, and scalable solutions.
• Work together with leads, architects, and cross-functional teams through comprehensive technical documentation.
• Scale a complex distributed platform featuring globally distributed points of presence, ensuring high availability, reliability, throughput, low latency, and media fidelity.
• Create innovative solutions to customer challenges in the Voice channel.
• Travel occasionally for project or team meetings in person.
• A minimum of 2+ years of practical experience in a large-scale, distributed applications environment utilizing JVM-based technologies.
• Experience in building RESTful services, designing APIs, and implementing event-driven architectures (such as Kafka and SQS).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure including AWS, GCP, OpenStack, or Azure.
• Exceptional written communication skills, crucial for effective AI prompting and producing clear technical documentation (with or without AI support).
• Proven capability to critically assess AI-generated code regarding correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
• Strong Java fundamentals, with the ability to architect, review, and debug code authored by yourself, colleagues, or AI agents.
• Demonstrated expertise in working with AI coding assistants (such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) - you should be able to articulate your workflows and provide examples.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong foundational knowledge in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems.
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
• Experience with on-call rotations, incident response, and monitoring/alerting tools (like Prometheus, Datadog, Grafana) is preferred.
• Familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases and caching technologies is preferred.
• Experience in scaling production backend systems is preferred.
• Knowledge and experience with the SIP protocol is preferred.
• Knowledge and experience with the Stir/Shaken protocol is preferred.
