Site Reliability Engineer, GitHub Admin

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the management of the GitHub ecosystem, which encompasses organizations, teams, repositories, branch protection rules, and permission frameworks.

• Create, develop, and sustain CI/CD pipelines utilizing GitHub Actions, inclusive of reusable workflows, self-hosted runners, and environment safeguarding regulations.

• Administer GitHub security features, such as secret scanning, code scanning (CodeQL), Dependabot, and monitoring of audit logs.

• Implement repository standards, governance policies, and access control measures based on the principle of least privilege.

• Streamline platform administration and operational procedures through automation using scripting along with the GitHub API and CLI.

• Track platform uptime and performance metrics in accordance with established SLOs, adjusting alert settings to minimize false alarms.

• Address platform and pipeline incidents, lead troubleshooting efforts, and participate in blameless postmortem analyses.

• Integrate GitHub with identity management systems (SSO/SAML/SCIM) and related tools, including project management and security scanning solutions.

• Assist in migrating repositories to GitHub from alternative version control systems.

• Keep platform documentation, runbooks, and onboarding materials updated, while guiding developers on branching strategies and optimal GitHub practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

• At least 4 years of experience in site reliability engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering roles.

• Comprehensive hands-on experience with GitHub administration (Enterprise Cloud or Server), particularly in organization and permission management.

• In-depth knowledge of GitHub Actions, including workflow design, secrets management, and runner oversight.

• Assist in the daily rollout of GitHub Copilot for development teams, encompassing onboarding, best practices in prompt engineering, and troubleshooting Copilot interactions, leveraging GitHub Copilot certification-level expertise.

• Familiarity with GitHub security functionalities, such as secret scanning, Dependabot, and code scanning.

• Proficient in scripting against the GitHub API and CLI using languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools, including Terraform or Ansible.

• Solid understanding of SRE principles, including SLOs/SLIs, incident management, and postmortem processes.

• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker) and familiarity with at least one cloud service platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

• Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools, such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or Splunk.

• Experience working with federal government clients or contracts is considered an advantage.

• GitHub certifications, such as GitHub Actions or GitHub Administration, are desirable.

• Capability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Public Trust or Security Clearance.
