This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Oversee and direct all civil operations at substation and transmission line locations.
• Ensure adherence to approved designs, specifications, and construction timelines.
• Design and manage earthwork processes, grading, drainage systems, access roads, cable trenches, and foundational work.
• Evaluate, interpret, and produce civil design drawings and technical documents.
• Report inconsistencies and propose practical solutions.
• Administer geotechnical and ground/LIDAR site surveys for transmission line pathways and substation configurations.
• Review and authorize civil construction methodologies, work plans, and contractor method statements.
• Identify and address geotechnical, access, environmental, and constructability challenges.
• Collaborate with electrical, protection, commissioning, planning, and project management teams.
• Engage with internal engineers and technical specialists from the customer side.
• Cultivate and sustain professional relationships with clients.
• Offer technical guidance to site civil engineers and inspectors; delegate tasks, evaluate work, and mentor team members.
• Verify and review calculation specifications along with the processes for approval, revisions, retention, and storage.
• Assist in estimating tasks and efforts for proposal support.
• Facilitate project commissioning and handover by ensuring civil work on site is safely executed and meets specifications.
• Assist in the planning and scheduling of engineering tasks within the civil discipline.
• Foster positive working relationships with colleagues.
• Occasionally travel to other AECOM locations and client sites.
• Participate in field walks and conduct field measurements as required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with 6 years of relevant experience or a demonstrated equivalent of experience and/or education.
• Proven expertise in site grading, drainage, roadway construction, earthworks, substation layout development, and transmission access/alignment.
• Proficient in AutoCAD or MicroStation for civil design and detailing tasks.
• Understanding of substation site planning, transmission/substation access requirements, and integration with electrical designs.
• Professional Engineering license (P.E.) is preferred.
• Over 10 years of relevant site civil experience is preferred, including a minimum of three years as a project technical lead and/or engineer of record.
• Extensive knowledge of international civil and design standards, such as IEC, BS, IEEE, and ANSI.
• Experience in construction supervision, site inspections, and commissioning support.
• Familiarity with hydrological analysis tools, stormwater modeling, or Civil 3D/BIM software.
• Experience with GIS or AIS substation developments.
• Knowledge of major utility or transmission operator standards.
• Experience collaborating with remote teams.
• Experience managing full EPC and Design/Build projects from inception to completion.
• Owner’s Engineering experience.
• Experience with retrofit or brownfield projects.
• Exposure to supporting renewable generation initiatives.
• Self-motivated individual.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Capable of participating in field walks, creating field sketches, taking measurements, and climbing ladders as needed.
