Senior/Staff DevOps Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Establish and guide the technical vision and quarterly roadmap for infrastructure, ensuring clear trade-offs and measurable objectives.

• Manage and enhance AWS and Kubernetes/EKS infrastructure, which includes cluster management, autoscaling with Karpenter, policy enforcement using Kyverno, and ensuring zero-downtime operations.

• Take full ownership of Infrastructure as Code from start to finish utilizing Terraform and AWS CDK in TypeScript.

• Manage GitLab CI/CD, encompassing reusable/shared templates, OIDC, and self-hosted GitLab.

• Develop and maintain effective observability using Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, OpenSearch, CloudWatch, log pipelines, and APM.

• Ensure rapid blue-green deployments and health-gated automated rollbacks.

• Oversee zero-downtime PostgreSQL schema migrations using expand/contract and CI migration gating.

• Lead security engineering efforts in a HIPAA-compliant environment, focusing on secrets management, credential rotation, leak scanning, PHI-aware log and data handling, and managing Vault as code.

• Collaborate directly with product engineering teams to alleviate infrastructure challenges and enhance the developer experience.

• Integrate agentic AI into core workflows by incorporating autonomous-agent outputs into production.

• Define technical strategy, implement infrastructure hands-on, and take responsibility for reliability, cost, security, performance, deployment health, and developer velocity outcomes.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of experience in DevOps/infrastructure engineering.

• Strong foundation in systems fundamentals with solid Linux administration and troubleshooting skills, including performance analysis, resource management, and process debugging.

• Practical AWS experience with services such as EC2, EKS, RDS, ElastiCache, Lambda, SQS, EventBridge, API Gateway, ALB, and S3.

• Production experience in Kubernetes/EKS, including cluster management, node scaling, and policy enforcement; familiarity with Karpenter, Kyverno, or similar tools.

• Proficient in Infrastructure as Code with Terraform and AWS CDK in TypeScript.

• Experience managing CI/CD processes with GitLab CI/CD, reusable/shared templates, OIDC id_tokens, and self-managed GitLab.

• Practical knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, OpenSearch, CloudWatch, log-shipping, and error tracking/APM.

• Solid security engineering experience, including secrets rotation, short-lived credentials, leak scanning, and PHI-aware logging.

• Familiarity with HashiCorp Vault as code, including KV, JWT/OIDC authentication for CI, and policy design.

• Experience with blue-green deployments, automated health-gated rollbacks, PostgreSQL zero-downtime schema migrations, and migration gating in CI.

• Knowledge of Docker, ECR, immutable tags, image lifecycle management, load balancing, TLS, and DNS.

• Hands-on experience with agentic AI workflows, such as Claude Code or similar technologies.

• A developer-focused mindset with strong problem-solving skills for complex system challenges and excellent technical writing abilities using docs-as-code, ADRs, and design docs via MRs.

• Proficiency in both Russian and English (B1 level).

• Effective experience working in remote, distributed teams.

• Background in regulated/compliance-heavy environments, familiarity with Ansible, Node.js application operations, GitOps tooling, advanced PostgreSQL administration, and AWS certifications would be advantageous.
