Senior/Lead Software Engineer – Packet Forwarding Engines

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and develop a packet forwarding engine and system software for intricate networking ASICs.

• Compose functional specifications, design specifications, test plans, and production code.

• Implement the packet forwarding engine and system software utilizing C, C++, and Python.

• Utilize, test, and troubleshoot vendor-supplied software libraries for the packet forwarding engine and hardware components.

• Create and execute automated tests while diagnosing and resolving identified issues.

• Initiate new hardware and develop functionalities that require hardware forwarding support, including low-level hardware drivers.

• Collaborate with engineers on broader software and system software challenges.

• Examine customer network issues and offer resolutions through releases or patches.

• Partner with hardware teams and vendors to initiate new systems.

• Design and create validation software for new packet forwarding ASICs and hardware components.

• Investigate system test issues and provide solutions.

• Mentor new and junior engineers.

• Review and contribute to the specifications and implementations of teammates.

• Develop, update, and communicate implementation and debugging timelines to the project lead.

• Take ownership of projects from definition to deployment, ensuring the quality of deliverables.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with 8 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 6 years, or a Ph.D. with 3 years, or equivalent professional experience.

• Familiarity or expertise in C or C++.

• Knowledge of UNIX or Linux operating systems.

• Understanding of IP networking or distributed systems.

• Practical knowledge of software engineering principles.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and software debugging skills.

• Capability to design and independently implement solutions for small-scale problems.

• Ability to collaborate within a small team to address medium-sized challenges with minimal oversight.
