Senior/Lead Software Engineer, BIOS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, integrate, and maintain low-level CPU software for Arista products.

• Create automated tests utilizing C, C++, and Python.

• Collaborate with hardware engineers and vendors to validate new CPUs and associated components.

• Monitor developments in the Linux Kernel and pinpoint relevant features for Arista products and internal initiatives.

• Contribute new features to upstream open-source BIOS communities.

• Review and provide input on functional and design specifications.

• Analyze, address, and resolve customer-network issues alongside Customer Support Engineers and clients.

• Evaluate System Test Engineer challenges and offer solutions.

• Provide technical leadership across various features, projects, and tools.

• Mentor new and junior engineers.

• Oversee projects from concept through deployment and customer engagement, ensuring quality delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with 8 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 6 years, or a Ph.D. with 3 years, or equivalent professional experience.

• Mastery of C programming with extensive experience.

• Familiarity with C++ and Python is preferred.

• Experience in designing and developing software for CPU firmware, BIOS, and boot loader environments.

• Proven experience in bringing up new CPU boards.

• Considerable hands-on experience in diagnosing issues, troubleshooting, and rectifying bugs in low-level CPU firmware, BIOS, and boot loader software.

• Knowledge of Linux kernel architecture, design, and implementation is advantageous.

• Understanding of IP networking architecture, design, and principles is desirable.

• Practical understanding of modern software engineering principles and practices.

• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.

• Strong skills in software design and implementation.

• Capability to work independently as well as part of small teams.

• Effective communication skills with the ability to document designs and implementations clearly and succinctly.

• Experience with x86 and ARM CPU architectures is beneficial.
