This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Become a part of Arista Networks’ Extensible Operating System (EOS) software development team.
• Develop features for extensive data center networks.
• Collaborate with fellow engineers and marketing team members to gather functional and technical requirements.
• Compose functional specifications, design specifications, test plans, and production code.
• Implement EOS solutions utilizing C, C++, and Python.
• Create and run automated tests.
• Supervise test execution, troubleshoot failures, and address defects.
• Tackle routing protocol challenges as part of a team.
• Work with Customer Support Engineers to analyze customer-network issues and provide software releases or patches.
• Partner with System Test Engineers to address testing issues.
• Take ownership of projects from inception to deployment, ensuring deliverable quality.
• Mentor new and junior engineers.
• Review and contribute to the specifications and implementations of team members.
• Prepare and revise implementation and debugging schedules weekly, reporting them to the project lead.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering with 8 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 6 years, or a Ph.D. with 3 years, or equivalent work experience.
• Proficiency in C, C++, and/or Python.
• Familiarity with UNIX or Linux operating systems.
• Understanding of L2/L3 networking concepts.
• Desirable knowledge of IP routing protocols such as RIP, OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, or PIM.
• Desirable knowledge of Layer 2 features, including 802.1d bridging, Spanning Tree Protocol, Link Aggregation Control Protocol, Link Layer Discovery Protocol, or RFC 1812 IP routing.
• Capability to utilize, test, and debug packet forwarding engines and vendor-supplied hardware component software libraries.
• Knowledge of distributed-systems infrastructure functions, including messaging, signaling, databases, and command-line interface techniques.
• Desirable hands-on experience in designing and developing Ethernet bridging, routing-related, or distributed-systems software.
• Practical experience with enterprise or service-provider Ethernet switch/router system software development, or significant Ph.D.-level research in network routing and packet forwarding.
• Applied knowledge of software engineering principles.
• Strong problem-solving and software troubleshooting capabilities.
• Ability to independently design and implement solutions for smaller problems.
• Capacity to collaborate within a small team to resolve medium-sized issues with limited supervision.
