Senior Web Compatibility Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Ensure that websites function seamlessly in DuckDuckGo browsers on Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android platforms.

• Analyze and reverse-engineer methods used by sites to detect DuckDuckGo's privacy features and develop countermeasures.

• Implement shim browser APIs to ensure compatibility across various browser engines and system webviews.

• Construct LLM agent pipelines to automatically replicate and address reported site failures.

• Take ownership of the web compatibility aspect of the triage process.

• Troubleshoot intricate issues within code that is outside the team's control.

• Differentiate between site bugs, browser bugs, and issues arising from privacy protection measures.

• Lead the incident response efforts when major websites experience failures.

• Deliver sustainable fixes across all platforms.

• Engage in projects designed to minimize user turnover and retain DuckDuckGo users.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in developing and debugging intricate web applications using vanilla JavaScript.

• In-depth understanding of web standards, web components, and browser APIs.

• Additional skills in Swift, Kotlin, C#, C++, or Python are advantageous.

• Proficient in reverse-engineering obfuscated third-party code and simplifying issues to minimal test cases.

• A strong enthusiasm for identifying elusive bugs and tracing them back to their source.

• Interest in automating repetitive tasks and creating intelligent tooling.

• Proven experience in triaging issues, leading incident responses, and communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Experience in deploying code outside of the web environment, including native or desktop applications.

• Capability to lead intricate, ambiguous projects with minimal supervision.

• Must participate in meetings with video conferencing on camera.

• Must successfully pass a background check as a prerequisite for joining.
