This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Oversee the execution of roadway design for transportation projects throughout Colorado, serving both CDOT and local agency clients.
• Act as the roadway task leader within interdisciplinary teams, guiding projects from concept creation through PS&E and construction assistance.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Offer guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Evaluate designs for quality and assist engineers in overcoming complex challenges.
• Promote standards across the department and assist initiatives aimed at enhancing design workflows, tools, and efficiency of delivery.
• Comprehend client technical requirements and propose viable solutions.
• Utilize engineering techniques, procedures, criteria, and judgment to execute engineering tasks effectively.
• Assess design alternatives and suggest practical, cost-efficient solutions.
• Maintain a value engineering approach throughout the development, design, and construction stages.
• Prepare plans, specifications, and inspection reports.
• Suggest modifications to development criteria and design features.
• Review plans and specifications for constructability, safety, and risk management considerations.
• Lead QA/QC initiatives for roadway design tasks.
• Compile reports and correspondence regarding the direction and progress of assigned projects.
• Collaborate with business and engineering personnel across various markets and technical disciplines.
• Assist in marketing, sales, and business development efforts.
• Delegate tasks, coordinate activities, and ensure quality and accountability.
• Direct PS&E deliverables and contribute to model development, plan preparation, and quantity estimation.
• Prepare and review alignments, quantities, and cost estimates.
• Identify risks related to right-of-way, utilities, and scope gaps, and drive their resolution.
• Support project management responsibilities, encompassing scope development, schedule coordination, and client interaction.
• Engage in client coordination and assist with proposals and business development.
• A B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or its equivalent is mandatory.
• A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required; Colorado licensure is preferred or the ability to obtain it within a reasonable timeframe.
• An NCEES Council Record is advantageous.
• 6–10+ years of civil engineering experience is preferred, with 4–5+ years specifically in roadway design.
• Proven experience in leading roadway design tasks and contributing to interdisciplinary project delivery.
• Proficiency in geometric design, grading, phasing, and constructability is essential.
• Strong expertise in Bentley OpenRoads Designer, including corridor modeling, plan production, and supporting team workflows.
• Experience with CDOT projects; familiar with standards, specifications, and workflows.
• Knowledge of CDOT design manuals and stakeholder coordination is beneficial.
• Proficient in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
• Must possess authorization to work permanently in the U.S.
• Capability to execute complex tasks with minimal supervision.
• Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and prioritize tasks to meet delivery deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
