
Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel – Head of Asset Resolution Department

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey, +4 more states.
• Provide executive leadership and legal oversight for the Company’s Asset Resolution Department.
• Direct nationwide default litigation and implement various legal recovery strategies.
• Supervise Asset Resolution counsel and manage relationships with external legal representatives.
• Spearhead legal recovery strategies in areas such as foreclosure, bankruptcy, breach of note and guaranty lawsuits, title claims, receivership, loan workouts, deed-in-lieu transactions, judgment enforcement, and collateral liquidation.
• Oversee the legal team’s strategy, allocate workloads, assess performance, and ensure consistency in execution.
• Manage an active portfolio consisting of approximately 342 Asset Resolution cases.
• Establish outside-counsel litigation strategies, oversee legal expenditures, track performance, review invoices, and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Manage current outside law firms while identifying, evaluating, retaining, and supervising new firms.
• Collaborate with Executive Leadership, Credit, Servicing, Finance, Compliance, and Operations to evaluate risks and optimize distressed asset recoveries.
• Provide oversight on preservation efforts, insurance compliance, lien protection, title matters, and disposition strategies.
• Manage complex enforcement issues involving deficiency judgments, guarantor collections, fraudulent transfers, bankruptcy processes, and contested foreclosures.
• Negotiate and supervise settlements, restructurings, loan modifications, discounted payoffs, and various resolution strategies.
• Assist in the preparation of submissions to the Asset Resolution Committee and Executive Leadership.
• Create executive reporting and portfolio analytics encompassing recoveries, legal expenditures, asset aging, charge-offs, litigation trends, and performance evaluations.
• Establish policies, procedures, metrics, and accountability standards.
• Promote workflow automation, enhance reporting capabilities, and standardize operations.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 10 Asset Resolution counsels and 6 support staff.
• Provide strategic guidance rather than direct management of individual cases.
• Encourage accountability, collaboration, strategic problem-solving, and client-focused decision-making.
• Must possess a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school.
• Must hold an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction in good standing.
• Proven experience in managing or overseeing a high-volume litigation portfolio.
• 10+ years of substantial legal experience required.
• Demonstrated expertise in overseeing multi-state foreclosure and default litigation.
• Strong understanding of various state foreclosure processes, court requirements, timelines, lien priority, title matters, and applicable creditor/debtor laws.
• Extensive experience with bankruptcy proceedings, breach of note and guaranty claims, title disputes, deficiency claims, receiverships, judgment enforcement, contested litigation, and other creditor recovery issues.
• Experience managing, supervising, and developing attorneys and legal support staff.
• Experience in selecting, retaining, managing, and evaluating outside counsel.
• Proven ability to develop and implement litigation, settlement, and recovery strategies.
• Ability to review and analyze settlement proposals, foreclosure sale strategies, and bidding instructions.
• Proficient in analyzing large volumes of case and portfolio data.
• Familiarity with legal case-management systems, litigation tracking platforms, Microsoft Office/Excel, reporting tools, and legal research platforms.
• Strong judgment and the ability to identify litigation risks, evaluate recovery options, make commercially sound recommendations, and balance legal risks against recovery goals and costs.
• Ability to perform effectively in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment while maintaining accuracy, responsiveness, confidentiality, and professional judgment.
• Experience collaborating directly with C-suite executives, senior business leaders, committees, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Preferred: experience leading a national or multi-state foreclosure/default litigation function.
• Preferred: experience managing a portfolio of over 300 active litigation or default cases.
• Preferred: experience supervising a team of 10+ attorneys or a comparable legal organization.
• Preferred: experience managing a significant network of outside counsel and reviewing legal expenditures/invoices.
• Preferred: familiarity with commercial real estate lending and distressed commercial loan portfolios.
• Preferred: experience with legal operations, workflow automation, litigation management systems, and data-driven legal reporting.
• Preferred: experience presenting litigation, settlement, recovery, and portfolio recommendations to committees or C-suite leadership.
