This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
β’ Lead, mentor, and cultivate a high-performing team of mortgage underwriting professionals.
β’ Act as a subject matter authority on residential mortgage underwriting.
β’ Provide guidance to teams on intricate borrower situations, including income, assets, credit, collateral, debt-to-income calculations, and exceptions.
β’ Ensure that decisions adhere to credit policies, investor guidelines, and regulatory standards.
β’ Collaborate with Credit Strategy to implement policies and address complex underwriting inquiries.
β’ Track performance, quality outcomes, exception trends, and recurring challenges.
β’ Establish practices for escalation and decision-making regarding complex or unclear loan scenarios.
β’ Work with Product and Engineering to enhance underwriting workflows, tools, and technologies.
β’ Partner with Risk, Compliance, Operations, and cross-functional teams.
β’ Foster underwriting talent through coaching, knowledge sharing, and training initiatives.
β’ A minimum of 7 years of experience in residential mortgage underwriting, particularly with complex borrower situations.
β’ At least 3 years of leadership experience managing mortgage underwriters or underwriting teams.
β’ Proficient in evaluating borrower income, assets, credit, collateral, and debt-to-income calculations.
β’ Experienced in applying conventional mortgage underwriting guidelines and credit policies to loan decisions, complex scenarios, and exceptions.
β’ Adept at interpreting and implementing changes to mortgage credit policies, investor guidelines, or underwriting requirements.
β’ Experience collaborating with Credit, Risk, Compliance, or other stakeholders in a regulated mortgage lending environment.
β’ Preferred: extensive knowledge of the complete residential mortgage origination lifecycle.
β’ Preferred: understanding of agency, investor, and regulatory requirements for residential mortgage underwriting.
β’ Preferred: experience in underwriting home equity products, including HELOCs.
β’ Preferred: familiarity with underwriting quality, performance, and exception data.
β’ Preferred: experience collaborating with Product and Engineering teams.
β’ Preferred: ability to convert complex credit policies into straightforward guidance.
β’ Preferred: experience leading teams through changes in credit policy, product, or technology.
