This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Evaluate electronic medical records to identify and gather patient data for individuals diagnosed with cancer and other reportable conditions.

• Review case-finding lists for eligible cases, rectify cases returned by the Texas Cancer Registry, and update current registry entries.

• Abstract patient data into the cancer management system in accordance with governmental regulations, and provide information for physicians and research initiatives; expected to abstract 4–5 cases daily upon hire.

• Maintain legal and ethical standards pertaining to the release of cancer registry information, confidentiality, data transmission, and compliance with the NCRA Code of Ethics.

• Participate in training and seminars as required to ensure adherence to Texas Department of Health reporting standards.

• Execute additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• Experience in tumor registry or medical records management is essential.

• Familiarity with medical terminology and tumor classification is necessary.

• Strong skills in abstracting and coding patient medical record data.

• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities.

• Capacity to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently and effectively.

• Detail-oriented approach essential for analyzing clinical and numerical data.

• Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.

• Commitment to staying current with educational and technical qualifications related to cancer processes, diagnostic methods, patient records, data analysis, and statistical skills.

• An associate degree in a health science field or relevant post-secondary coursework in nursing, health information management, or a similar discipline is mandatory.

• A minimum of four (4) years of experience in registry or case abstracting is required.

• Certification as a Certified Oncology Data Specialist is necessary.

• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification is preferred.
