This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Execute thorough trademark clearance searches utilizing platforms such as Corsearch, CompuMark, TM TKO, or similar tools.
• Create and present professional search reports that include risk analysis and recommendations for prosecution.
• Conduct knockout and comprehensive clearance searches across federal, state, and common law records in the U.S.
• Collaborate with international associates to coordinate clearance searches as necessary.
• Draft responses to USPTO Office Actions, addressing issues such as likelihood of confusion refusals, descriptiveness refusals, and identification of goods/services challenges.
• Prepare and submit trademark applications, statements of use, extensions of time, renewals (Sections 8, 9, 15), and other maintenance filings.
• Track application status and deadlines while coordinating strategy and responses with attorneys.
• Prepare and submit Letters of Protest when applicable.
• Support TTAB proceedings by preparing filings for oppositions, cancellations, and extension requests.
• Conduct research to support enforcement actions, including use investigations and cease-and-desist correspondence.
• Organize and maintain litigation files, preparing document productions and chronologies as required.
• Draft and coordinate watch notices and infringement summaries for client review.
• Manage active trademark portfolios for multiple clients concurrently.
• Communicate directly with clients and foreign associates about status, strategy, and deadlines.
• Identify potential issues regarding deadlines or procedures and escalate them as needed.
• Maintain precise records within Alt Legal's docketing system and client-specific platforms.
• Collaborate closely with Alt Legal Assist's paralegal and docketing teams while regularly interacting with attorney contacts at client firms.
• Independently handle day-to-day tasks while ensuring the delivery of accurate, deadline-ready work products.
• A minimum of 5 years of trademark paralegal experience within a law firm or IP services setting.
• Direct experience in drafting Office Action responses, including handling refusals based on substantive grounds.
• Proficient in conducting and interpreting trademark clearance searches.
• Familiarity with USPTO procedures, TMEP guidelines, and TTAB regulations.
• Excellent written communication skills, capable of drafting clearly and concisely with minimal revisions from attorneys.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines and client matters simultaneously.
• Comfortable working in a remote, technology-driven environment.
• Preferred: Experience with international trademark prosecution and collaboration with foreign associates.
• Preferred: Background in supporting TTAB matters or other IP litigation.
• Preferred: Familiarity with time-tracking and project management tools (e.g., Harvest, ClickUp).
• Preferred: Possession of a paralegal certificate or a relevant undergraduate degree.
