Senior Technical Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Offer insights and collaborate on underwriting strategies, product development, wording, expert guidance, and technical training.

• Mentor and lead underwriting colleagues, including providing sign-off when necessary.

• Review and address internal Underwriting referrals for both new and renewal business.

• Identify trends both internally and externally, offering recommendations that align with strategic and operational objectives.

• Provide high-level analysis and market intelligence to the executive team and VP of Underwriting.

• Coordinate product development opportunities, including the creation of guidelines and templates.

• Develop and implement technical underwriting guidelines and best practices.

• Assist with Claims situations/files, utilizing wordings, underwriting intentions, and technical knowledge.

• Maintain and enhance relationships with retail producing brokers, promoting increased submission inflow.

• Participate in conventions and events occasionally.

• Create and deliver technical training and development programs for new business and retention teams, as well as broker partners.

• Encourage continuous learning and technical excellence through training seminars and individual support.

• Represent SRIM at meetings and events, including interactions with market partners.

• Assist with projects assigned by the CUO/VP of Underwriting.

• Perform additional duties as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Level 1 - General Insurance license or the ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe.

• CAIB, CIP, CRM, FCIP or actively pursuing a designation is preferred.

• Over 10 years of experience in Commercial Insurance.

• Willingness to further enhance underwriting analysis and product skills.

• Exceptional leadership abilities, capable of influencing and earning respect, credibility, and trust from others.

• Proficient in making sound and justified decisions in complex, high-pressure situations, often with incomplete information.

• Capable of developing and executing comprehensive plans and solutions that address intricate issues.

• Strong business acumen complemented by excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication capabilities.

• Ability to respectfully challenge the status quo and positively influence change.

• Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.

• High level of accuracy in handling audits and reviews.
