This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.
• Prepare, reconcile, file, pay, and manage federal, state, and local tax obligations for OHSU and its subsidiaries.
• Conduct research, analysis, and compliance monitoring while assessing risks associated with complex tax issues.
• Prepare and submit unrelated business income tax returns, including Form 990-T.
• Evaluate institutional activities for potential unrelated business income and collaborate with external tax consultants.
• Provide guidance to departments on tax compliance matters related to programs, contracts, grants, sponsorships, revenue-generating activities, and institutional initiatives.
• Prepare and file indirect tax returns and business tax returns for OHSU subsidiaries.
• Maintain annual IRS Form W-9s and prepare Form 945.
• Carry out compliance pre-audits, risk assessments, and continuous monitoring.
• Manage tax payments, deposits, and refunds.
• Address tax audits, notices, and correspondence.
• Oversee international tax compliance for nonresident employees, students, scholars, visitors, and foreign vendors.
• Maintain records and documentation for nonresident aliens and manage tax treaty compliance.
• Prepare Forms 1042 and 1042-S and keep tax residency certificates updated.
• Prepare and file regulatory reports for federal and state agencies.
• Conduct compliance audits, gap analyses, and assessments for audit readiness.
• Develop and revise fiscal policies, guidelines, FAQs, and procedures.
• Assist in collective bargaining activities with tax research, analysis, and technical expertise.
• Provide exceptional customer service while staying informed about tax law and related institutional requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a tax-related field, or equivalent education/experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in tax compliance and reporting for federal and multi-state business taxes, particularly unrelated business income tax for healthcare, government, higher education, or nonprofit sectors.
• Understanding of federal, state, local, and international income tax compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with accounting principles, tax reporting requirements, and internal controls.
• Ability to research, interpret, and apply tax laws, regulations, and guidance.
• Capability to analyze transactions and ascertain appropriate tax treatment and reporting obligations.
• Proficiency in Excel.
• Experience in structuring large datasets into logical and comprehensive analyses.
• Background in documenting assumptions and processes to provide clear explanations and an audit trail.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication skills for conveying technical information to diverse audiences.
