Senior Tax Accountant/Tax Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +8 more states.

📋 Description

• Accurately prepare and submit routine sales/use tax, property tax, and other non-income tax returns within deadlines.

• Collect and arrange the source data necessary for filings, including invoices, fixed asset records, accounting data, and sales information.

• Oversee and manage the tax compliance calendar.

• Process tax payments and ensure timely remittance to the appropriate jurisdictions.

• Reconcile tax data with general ledger accounts and source systems.

• Detect and address discrepancies between reported data and supporting documentation.

• Keep organized, audit-ready files and documentation for all submissions.

• Conduct research on basic taxability inquiries.

• Track changes in tax rates, regulations, or filing requirements in assigned jurisdictions.

• Assist senior staff with research related to complex tax inquiries or planning initiatives.

• Respond to and manage documentation for tax notices.

• Provide support during audits by gathering necessary documentation.

• Monitor and follow up on outstanding notices or unresolved audit items.

• Maintain expertise in tax software and systems.

• Identify and suggest opportunities to enhance or streamline compliance processes.

• Ensure internal trackers and spreadsheets are up-to-date for filings, payments, and deadlines.


⛳️ Requirements

• 1–5 years of relevant experience.

• A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably with a focus in Accounting.

• A solid understanding of accounting principles.

• Strong analytical skills.

• Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft applications.

• Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

• Prior tax experience is preferred.

• Experience with remote work is preferred.

• Experience in non-income or indirect tax is preferred.

• Remote work is not available in California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Tennessee unless the candidate is willing to relocate.
